Infrastructure and operation solutions for railway companies
The modular software system ZAK is the solution for infrastructure and operation. ZAK fulfils the complex requirements of quality and safety management (QMS/SMS) for European infrastructure and transportation companies (EU directive 2004/49/EG on railway safety).
Asset register and visualisation
The prerequisite of every successful implementation is the systematic determination of the infrastructure. The required degree of detail is defined by the goals of the system. ZAK provides the possibility of integrating the entire infrastructure into one single system comprising the fields of civil engineering, track construction, power supply, catenary, signalling, cable networks and buildings.
ZAK contains a linear asset management module with dynamic segmentation for displaying infrastructure data on a meter-scale (optimised for track data). Furthermore, the GIS-module, which is part of the system, integrates existing geographic data.
Condition monitoring and deadline monitoring
The goal is to rank assets by their condition state, known as asset health. This allows management to enhance the maintenance strategy from time-based maintenance (TBM) to condition-based maintenance (CBM) and reliability-based maintenance (RBM).
ZAK integrates interfaces to various standard diagnosis systems, such as track geometry diagnosis, switch diagnosis, catenary diagnosis and supervisory control systems. Critical violations of tolerance limits are shown clearly by coloured traffic lights. Additionally ZAK calculates the next deadline dates automatically and the comparison with historical data allows the determination of trends.
Failure analysis and incident management
ZAK contains a module for the mandatory reporting of incidents and malfunctions. Each failure can be matched to assets, known as bad actors. The main features are: central reporting of malfunctions, initiation of emergency measures, creation of repair work orders for the responsible service departments, automatic notification of freely defined recipients, graphic representation of current malfunctions on the map, and reports and calculation of indicators.
Replacement strategy and aging issues
The ZAK system, as the integrated infrastructure management system, provides all relevant technical data at any time. Users at different levels are constantly updating asset data, condition data and incident data. As a result of this ZAK provides methods to estimate the need for replacement by using aging formulas (asset type, lifespan, age, load capacity and condition state). These formulas can be adapted to the specific needs of customers. As an additional result, cost prognosis and sensitivity analyses are automatically generated.
Train monitoring and punctuality analysis
ZAK offers the possibility of displaying train locations in real time. This module contains a map display of current train locations and the identification of the relative position (delay) by traffic light colours. Potential reasons for delays include construction sites, while slow speed sections are also embedded in the map. The train archive contains all past train runs, allowing statistical analyses for delays and indicating systematic failures.
ZAK provides total transparency of quality, safety and costs for business and government. KPIs can be determined and flexible according to customer needs. Any kind of report can be generated and distributed automatically via email to different management functions at different hierarchy levels.
